Manifesto
We believe...
books tell multiple stories. The stories on its pages, yes. The material histories of its pages, its illustrations, its bindings, true. Books also tell your stories. "A Library of One's Own" is the library of the personal stories of the books in your hands. What the book means to you, how it arrived there, and the stories it gathered along the way.”
We extend...
the practice of reading notations and ephemera in material books to reading, sharing, and learning from the annotations particular books have left on lives.
We support...
you as a champion of a particular edition of a book. Book history is personal history.
We celebrate...
the opportunity to blur the lines between a privately owned or discovered book and a collective, public library.
We envision...
the rarity of "rare books" to speak to an individual's experience with a material book. Not the material condition or scarcity of that book alone.
We invite
you to join us in borrowing from, and helping curate, this living and collaborative library.
